Brittney Schneider, 22, was in Chiang Mai last Thursday when she said she and some others got "ridiculously drunk." They started to walk back to their hostel, but came across a bottle of spray paint and picked it up…

I hope they let her off with a fine, I really do, but she did break three essential life rules:

Don't get so drunk you do stupid things
Behave yourself in foreign countries
Don't have a stupid boyfriend

I know it's just my worldview but I feel like when you do these things you are just rolling the dice – anything could happen, and the consequences can be huge.

I behaved so carefully in Thailand the Thais made fun of me for following their customs more carefully than they did.

On the other hand, even at that age, it would NEVER have occurred to me to deliberately pick up a can of spray paint and deface something. And though I'm not a drinker, I'm positive I wouldn't have done it even when drunk. (Punch somebody, maybe, but vandalism, nope.) So one suspects that some needed upbringing never happened.

Vandalism is a sign of stupidity and low character, drunk or not.

I concur.

Someone in Toronto was clocked by a train a few years back while leaving his "tag" under a bridge. Some people made a fuss but to me that just proves that sometimes there is justice in the World.

She got 2 year sentence, then judge showed leniency and reduced it to a 100,000 baht fine (about $3,000 USD ).
