Well, the first episode with the new Doctor (Jodie Whittaker) has now been broadcast.

She reminds me a bit of David Tennant – I hope she can shake that off and be her own Doctor.

And the story – a bit meh….the alien had to explain everything that was going on and that's not a good sign for a well developed plot.

But – not a bad first outing. Let's see what happens next. Oh – I hated the credits which previewed every guest actor for every episode in the series. Spoilers, sweetie!

I didn't watch the credits fortunately but I agree with the rest of your review.

I thought it was a good, solid episode. I agree that Whittaker needs to put her own stamp on the character. I'm looking forward to see where she takes it.

Good first episode, the bad guy was a bit weak. A great improvement on the last 3 or 4 series.

She was a bit like the David Tennant Doctor. Not a bad thing though, in my view!

Solid introductory episode what with having a bunch of new characters and a new Doctor. Kicking off with Daleks or something might be a bit intense!

Interestingly Jodie Whittaker is possibly best known in Britain for her role in Broadchurch which was written by Chris Chibnall, the new Dr Who showrunner. And the star of Broadchurch? One Mr D Tennant….

I am glad it seemed like a return to the David Tennant style, I am hopeful now the chief writer has changed (Steven Moffatt) -who was a good writer, but was a disaster without editorial control from Russell T Davies IMHO) – that now the stories will be simpler and more fun!

I had no trouble accepting Jodie Whittaker, but the story and bad guy were horrible.

Let's hope she doesn't get blamed for bad writing.

Looks like she can hold her own as The Doctor. Even getting in a good natured riff on the previous one.

I liked it. A new Doctor always starts off imitating the last doctor and drifting into their own vibe.

It seems they're expecting to bring in a lot of new watchers, which could be why they chose such a simple plot. Hopefully they'll crank things back up now.

I didn't watch so have no opinion.

You could probably catch it on the BBC Iplayer on their web site…

Like it. Intend to keep watching.

I'd agree the bad guy was weak, the whole teeth face just made me shake my head. Overall it was okay, I pretty much quit watching it over the last two seasons so I'll give it a chance with a new doctor and new companions…..which is important, companions can make or break it for me. An average doctor can be carried by interesting companions.

Rotten Tomatoes has a 21% fan score. I think that's pretty conclusive.

Not necessarily so –

Rotten Tomatoes actually has it at :

TOMATOMETER 91%
Average Rating: 7.46/10
Season Reviews: 39
Fresh: 37
Rotten: 2

Since it is so at odds with the published review ratings, the 21% Audience Score probably includes a goodly helping of rabid fanboys (most people don't instantly rush off to Rotten Tomatoes to make their feelings known!) who can't cope with the change of sex thing. SF can still be pretty misogynist, unfortunately.

Sad but true, also rather odd. Since sci fi has had strong female leaders and characters since forever.
But to this day Voyager gets a lot of flak. And while it does have some bad stuff. A lot of it has to do with a female captain.
This is also clear by the simple fact women rate voyage quite high while men on average rate it low.
