TBBT was one of my favorites. The ensemble concept
rarely worked better.

I'll miss it when it's gone.

It was great the first five or six seasons. After that it started to go down hill.

Once they started spouting their idiotic poliical beliefs we turned them off. There are much better things to do with your time.

And Frazier was, and still is, funnier with much better writing.

Never noticed political beliefs per se. However,
for anyone who wishes, watch the reprise of 'Murphy
Brown,' the reboot another mute testimony to the
paucity of creative talent in the entertainment
business of today…

They're bringing back Magnum, PI too….

Time for a crossover – who killed Murphy Brown? – it was Magnum.

I'm with Stone M. Shows like "Last Man Standing' etc are far poorer for pedalling their idiotic political beliefs.

If I want satire, I'll look for it elsewhere than sit coms.

Solo voice compared to the full choir.

Solo voice compared to the full choir.

My apologies. I come from a place where rugged individualism is valued. I believe it's better to be an individual than just part of the herd.

Particularly if the choir are off key.

I was referring the the show Last Man Standing.

I'm glad you agree a single voice is just as important as the shouts of the crowd and has a right not to be silenced by them.

TBBT lost its theme when Sheldon mnoved across the hall to live in a relationship wit Amy ended its uniqueness Married nerds with babies are not as much fun as social misfits

And where did I write this nonsense? For example, clearly some noisome extremist doesn't have a right to spout hate & vitriol. Nor should a nincompoop be allowed "equal time". There's too many people in the world with nothing to say who insist on saying it.

But back to American sit coms. I actually enjoyed a few episodes of LMS until it dawned on me that the main character's (the tool chap) views were meant to be taken seriously. I'd thought the son-in-law & the wife were the heroes and he was the usual paternal buffoon. Like Stone M., I turned it off.

Sorry, I guess rugged individualism only applies when following lockstep with the party line. My mistake. Thus, there is no point in continuing this discussion.

Thanks,

Vince

I have no idea. What party are you in?

Try the news …

Try the news …

I mostly watch the ABC & SBS news programs & read 'The Australian'. I think by and large they give balanced reporting of the issues of the day. For satire I prefer the Gruen Transfer & Tom Ballard's 'Nightly' is pretty good.

Very funny show, good writing and great performances, but I never could stand that overpowering laugh-track.

Old Contemptibles01 Sep 2018 11:07 p.m. PST

I quit watching network sitcoms largely because of the laugh-track. I like to decide myself what is funny and what isn't. I find sitcoms on HBO and others, so refreshing as they do not have laugh tracks. I never watched a full episode of TBBT.

I must have missed the politics as well. I watch TBBT, but it has a tendency to be inconsistent plotwise which I find somewhat grating.

Also, casually racist all the time – and you can say "it's ironic" as much as you like, it still sounds like casual racism.

The jokes about Howard's never seen often heard overweight mother became less funny when she died (because the actress died in real life).

A final match of "Rock-Paper-Scissors-Lizard-Spock" might be in order.
