I have a problem with the article noting the preference for and consequent desire for lighter skin in Thai and other Asian societies as being 'racism.'

This is class based not racial – as the article itself notes farmers and other people on the lower rungs of the social ladder have darker skin color.

In other words primarily people who do manual labor out in the sun – ancestry/genetics would have a part, but we aren't looking at anything like racism.
