Selling Girl Scout cookies is meant to accomplish more than just distributing Samoas and Thin Mints to the world. Ideally, the girls would learn about setting goals, teamwork, money management and communicating with adults, among other things. If the girls can develop some business acumen, all the better. And one young scout in San Diego has received nationwide plaudits for her shrewd entrepreneurial sense, setting up shop last week outside a marijuana dispensary. The girl, who has not been publicly identified, sold more than 300 boxes in six hours, her father told ABC 10. Boxes now sell for as much as $5 USD in parts of the country, so she probably raised more than $1,500. USD Yes, there's money in the munchies. |

It's also supposed to instill some sense of ethics and responsibility. It's not just about making money exploiting opportunities. And if she (or her parents) now wish for her not to show her face in public … well then maybe they aren't 100% ok now, after the fact, with how she targeted that group and interacted with them. Just speculation, of course. I don't think I would want my daughter thinking that recreational drugs are ok, even when they are legal*. Sorry, that's how I feel about THC when not used for legitimate medical reasons. No, it's not about being old-fashioned. It's about having different values. It's a choice. Dan * Sadly many today don't quite understand that lawful/legal, ethical and moral aren't the same thing. |

Sounds a bit like a Mad Magazine article. |

This is only news because of the type of store she was near and they posted on Instagram. If she was near the Vallero Gas Station and they posted it would not have been news worthy of the New York Times. Good for the people who bought the cookies. As my daughters were all scouts and no one knocks on doors in my neighborhood I buy cookies whenver I see girls selling them. Dan I understand your view. I work in a store that sells beer (90% of sales) while my children and some other employee's children sold cookies there most people who asked if they could, we said yes, ended up not setting up in front of our store. |
