The article totally bypasses the role Canadian Universities played in the development of "American" football. These early games between Canadian Universities like Toronto and McGill and the US Ivy League schools helped transform the rugby style game into the game we see today.

Of course as time went on, Canadian and American football diverged as more schools in both countries began playing the game, and cross border games declined. The Toronto Argonauts are the oldest continuous professional football franchise in existence (144 years old). Add to that, last night they won the 105th Grey Cup* in Ottawa.
