Well, I should be able to get a lot more painting and basing finished this week as I just got seven days in the Facebook glass house. What high crime or misdemeanor was this for, you may ask? Did I call for anyone's assassination? Post revealing photos of naked 1/72 figures? Roger the regimental goat? Nope! Guilty of using army slang on an (allegedly) private humor page run by and for army veterans….. The evidence for the persecution being that I used the term "porridge " to refer to personnel North of Hadrian's wall, and "" (which is actually an arabic word for girl) to refer to someone with a lumpy jumper. The British Army sure ain't what it used to be. |

It's a new world. And little things like facts only get in the way of PC*, specially on Facebook. Dan * And PC is whatever they tell you it is this week. link |

I didn't even know that Facebook and Bill are on the same page. :) |

And someone reported you – excellent. What a world |
Legion 4 | 09 Nov 2017 7:14 a.m. PST |
PC is the new normal it seems … If I say more … I'd probably end up in the DH … again … |

It's not PC to NOT be a dick… |
Cacique Caribe | 09 Nov 2017 10:24 a.m. PST |
Excellent example, Naz. :) Dan |
PzGeneral | 09 Nov 2017 10:31 a.m. PST |
Naz, by the way people treat others anymore, I'm not so sure you're right…… Want proof? Watch popular comedic 'News or Opinion' TV shows. Such venom and hate…..so sad people find it funny…. |
Red3584 | 09 Nov 2017 10:31 a.m. PST |
To be fair the expressions number 4 used (now bleeped) were offensive, racist and sexist…out of place anywhere and definitely here |
Cacique Caribe | 09 Nov 2017 10:42 a.m. PST |
Red Lol. And that justifies calling them "dick" in return? Yeah, that is less offensive language. Dan PS. PzGeneral: "Such venom and hate…..so sad people find it funny…." So true. And sadly the new normal. People think they're justified to escalate everything they don't like with even more venom, as if that would make things better. |
Hafen von Schlockenberg | 09 Nov 2017 11:09 a.m. PST |
It's best referred to here by the term "Wheaton's Law", as quoting it has gotten people in the Dawghouse before. If any good comes from this, it will be making a few more people aware of the Plus boards. But I don't really see in what context the bleeped words could be considered "facts". |
goragrad | 09 Nov 2017 11:15 a.m. PST |
Actually what is particularly pathetic is that merely writing the terms in a statement in which the terms were not being directed at anyone apparently triggers an adverse response. Such that if someone copied the definition and usage example from the Urban dictionary for the 'W' word which uses the 'N' word as an example they would be subject to the same 8 day dog housing. Amusingly if I were to write that according to Australian definition I am a ___('w' word) being of Slavic ancestry, some poor reader of that statement undoubtedly would be offended enough to report me. |
jambo1 | 09 Nov 2017 11:16 a.m. PST |
Coming from North of Hadrians wall I would have taken much offence to that disgusting term he used. |
Cacique Caribe | 09 Nov 2017 11:16 a.m. PST |
There are much more inoffensive words that get the hammer on Facebook and other places, and yet they often leave in place the worst ones. It's like social media has a serious hormonal imbalance, lashing out at some and ignoring many of the more atrocious violations (often from people who were waiting for some "justification" to escalate the hateful language). Sad. Dan PS. For the record, I'm not really the defending number4, I am talking about Facebook and similar social sites, and their "fluid" selective application of censorship. |
Red3584 | 09 Nov 2017 11:24 a.m. PST |
I don't think I referred to anyone as a dick but Wheatons Law is one that makes a lot of sense and we'd all be better if some people here applied it. Its a shame that decrying something as 'PC' is often a cover for allowing racist, sexist or homophobic speech |
Cacique Caribe | 09 Nov 2017 11:27 a.m. PST |
Red I didn't say you did. As for crying PC, I guess "free speech" is a selective term, depending on the community. On sites that transcend borders, everyone seems to want everyone else to conform to the standards of their one particular regional niche/community, calling for "free speech", and then they in turn deny the exercise of everyone else's "free speech" (of other regions/communities). So on most social media policies are often dictated, not by the majority but based on the "loudness" (the most dramatic the reaction, claiming the most justifiable outrage, wins). Like I said, sad. Dan PS. I wonder what "government by the most dramatic" is really called. Dramatocracy, or some such? Or by the loudest little mob, Megalophonocracy? Or by the most overlysensitive, Evaisthitocracy? |
nazrat | 09 Nov 2017 1:39 p.m. PST |
In point of fact I called nobody a dick, but simply made the point about the whole BS PC thing that some of you guys throw around all the time. |
Cacique Caribe | 09 Nov 2017 1:45 p.m. PST |
Yes, of course. It's always BS when it doesn't favor some people. Legit when it favors others. Dan |

I've seen stuff far worse on Fb lately which I can't repeat here obviously since it was technically exhorting people to kill a certain prominent politician, and the perp wasn't sanctioned or busted or anything. But the poster who is now DH'd uses a word which is British slang for a female(albeit a word I haven't heard used much for a long time and which seems confined largely to the armed forces) and he gets pulled up for it. You can hear the same word on British TV programmes such as The Sweeney which are repeated on daytime TV all the time, although the Sweeney was very much a product of the 1970's and by definition Londoncentric. It is getting so that you afraid to put anything on that isn't anodyne and banal to the point of ultra PCness for fear of being reported by someone who makes a point of being offended. What a world we are now living in. |

So, don't go into that virtual world. It is a silly place (only a "model" of society, and a poorly constructed one at that). |

So, don't go into that virtual world. It is a silly place (only a "model" of society, and a poorly constructed one at that). Yes it is, but if you choose what you wish to look at you can filter out all the rubbish you don't want to see by blocking or unfollowing etc. There are lots of decent dedicated wargames pages on there which are closed groups to keep all the idiots out. |
Bowman | 11 Nov 2017 8:21 a.m. PST |
Spot on, Volleyfire. Spot on. No, not spot on. I'm not sure TV is analogous with TMP at all. TMP is a privately owned club. We have to be members to interact with other members and some of us pay for this privilege. The owner has certain rules. You don't interact with your TV programming. You passively subsume it. By being able to actively interact with others on a discussion board we have to be cognizant of those others and "play nice". Therefore no swearing, no discussion of politics or religion. All of which are the usual fodder on television. I also agree with Nazrat and Red. Crying "PC" is often a smokescreen used for shielding despicable behaviour. |
Cacique Caribe | 11 Nov 2017 12:48 p.m. PST |
Of course, sometimes it is. Just like sometimes PC itself is "despicable behavior", such as in the very selective condemnation of violent references and/or inflammatory language. Dan PS. By the way, with its increased reliance on social media feedback, TV is no longer one-way communication. |

Coming from North of Hadrians wall I would have taken much offence to that disgusting term he used. Then you obviously never served in the British Army of the 1970's' as no-one as sensitive as that would have survived basic training. I've heard people called worse by the Padre, let alone drill sgt's. God forbid your tender ears would have heard what the residents of the Emerald Isle called us over the shield wall….(if you can't take a joke, you shouldn't have joined, as our drill sgt's used to say) I would have replied sooner, but got DH'd for the original post: nice one TMP, that's a class act. Well, I'm proud to have served my country, despicable as we were. I shall probably get DH'd again or kicked off TMP completely for sharing the following post that was made by another comrade in arms on the same forum – quite frankly I'm beyond caring now.- so long guys, and thanks for all the fish Quote: "There are many traditional stories around about the tight fisted nature of Porridge Wogs however I have never met one that is over 5 feet 6 tall who is anything other than generous to a fault. However, I have yet to meet one under 5 feet 6 tall who would buy a drink for anyone. This strange breed of Dwarf Porridge Wog has an amazing sense of balance due to the possession of a chip on each shoulder. Usually GWAR.
Whilst the common or garden full size Porridge Wog is an open minded life and soul of the party the Dwarf Porridge Wog never tires of telling you how great Scotchland is yet he never has the decency to off back there and leave us all in peace." End quote No doubt Special Branch will swoop and arrest this danger to society too. |
