I wonder how far you have to be from that to be "safe". It seems to me that such an incident could sterilize life in the neighborhood. But how large is that neighborhood? |

How bright is that again? Thousands of times brighter than the sun? That, alone, could destroy life as we know it on Earth, if it happened closer. All life could be blinded at the very least. |

You do know that this happen a very long time ago. Well the last observation of gravity waves from the collision of the Neutron stars happened just this August. The actual collision occurred 130 million years ago, so you are right, a long time ago. |
