I have been ;for a long time surfing Youtube, just looking for interesting stuff.
Sure, I fall back on old favorites like Linda Ronstadt and Heart.
But a while back, I stumbled across Paul Simon's Graceland concert in south Africa. Huh? Graceland in South Africa? Elvis?
Now, Graceland has always been a "Hear it once and fall in love with it" song, like City of New Orleans or Southern Cross. But I don't know why. I can't remember the lyrics. Don't know what it means, etc.

So, tonight, I called up Graceland on Youtube, mainly from stumbling across a duet with Willie Nelson at Farm Aid.

So, I followed a few links, and came up with this.

I find it fascinating, what goes into the creative process. Perhaps that's why I love the "How it's Made" shows from a few years back. Like how toilets are cast, how potato chips are made, etc.

The creative impetus behind the song blew me away. It was essentially built from a drum track. Paul didn't know how to get rid of "I'm going to Graceland". So, he embraced it, and built a story around it.

I now love that song even more. And I know even less of why I love it. grin

Before, it was simply about that tired cliche, loss and redemption. Hey. That's not all that bad a cliche. Now, it means even more. Or less. grin

"Call Me Al" was something to see too, with Chevy Chase lending Paul a hand in the video.
