Frederik Pohl predicted this in 1956
his short story 'Happy Birthday Dear Jesus'

I have heard it described as a cross between
'A Christmas Carol' and '1984'

I read it some time ago
but seem to remember a reference to
'Only 364 shopping days till Christmas!'

Wal-Mart and Hobby Lobby as well.

Hobby Lobby usually has their Christmas items out by the end of July, and discounted on sale when the actual Christmas season arrives.

Yeah. frown

I love it by the way. That's where I get my Lemax terrain.

I always like to reference that the earliest known complaints about the commercialization of Christmas in the US are from newspaper "people write in to complain" columns from the *1880's*!

As a kid, I always hated the "Back to School!" ads, featuring happy, eager children, picking out their new supplies.

They seemed to start earlier and earlier, ruining what was left of the summer by reminding me of yet another upcoming Season in Hell.
