Finally after nearly 30 years I have found this movie.

YouTube link

Watched it back in 1968 when I was just eleven years old.

Have been looking for it but did not know what it was called.

Great little adventure movie.

Tonight while on youtube there is was and I started to watch it and knew that this was the movie that I have been looking for.

Never saw that or rad the book it was based on.

Did read A Grue of Ice and The Hollow Sea by the book's author and found them interesting.

Will keep the movie in mind for future viewing.

Thanks Mithmee…I will watch it on Sunday when I return to my own home and can cast on my own tv.

I will be watching that one. YouTube is great for free stuff in the public domain. Occasionally you can sneak a watch of movies that haven't been flagged as pirated, before they are pulled or overwritten by some disagreeable interference (e.g. a white spot in the middle or half the screen missing, etc.).

Well, that was rather riveting. Good "Honor among thieves" story (the pun is unavoidable).
