RIP. A funny man and a vocal advocate of civil rights in his day:

Mr. Gregory was insightful and successful in using his humor and delivery to point out the social ills and injustices of the day to a wide audience. As a kid, I remember his television appearances on such tv shows as 'The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson' and 'Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In' where he plied his comedy. On the other hand, he could also be seen seriously discussing such important issues as civil rights and poverty with an even sharper insight and energy.

Unlike most comedians who followed and/or tried to imitate him, he shocked his audience not with the gratuitous and cheap "four-letter word", but with the truth of the times.

Godspeed, Mr. Gregory, and thank you very, very much.
