link West Germany's last chancellor and a reunited Germany's first. Despite the politics of the past, Chancellor Kohl was an important ally against the old Soviet Union in the waning days of the Cold War. As a young man, he saw his nation tragically split apart, but he was fortunate to live to see it united again in peace. Godspeed, Chancellor Kohl, and thank you very much. |

I think of him mostly for his time during the reunification. There was more than a little doom & gloom and fear of what was going to happen. I think he helped what was expected to be a bumpy ride both internally and externally, actually proceed quite well. RIP |
