Erin Moran, best known for her role as Joanie Cunningham on the classic series "Happy Days," has died, according to media reports. She was 56.
TMZ reported Moran's body was found Saturday afternoon by authorities in Indiana responding to reports of an unresponsive female. The cause of death remains unknown.
An actor throughout her childhood, Moran was tapped for "Happy Days" in 1974, playing Joanie Cunningham, the younger sister to Ron Howard's Ritchie Cunningham. She remained on the show until 1982 when she started in a spinoff "Joanie Loves Chachi" with co-star Scott Baio. Moran returned to "Happy Days" for its final season in 1983. She went on to appear as a guest star in other series, including "Love Boat" and "Murder She Wrote."

In 2008, Moran was a contestant on VH1's reality show "Celebrity Fit Club."

TMZ reported Moran had fallen on hard times in recent years and had been kicked out of a mobile home park where she lived.

Henry Winkler, who played Fonzie on "Happy Days," expressed his condolences on Twitter.

Reactions came in from other celebrities as well:

Wow. So hard to believe how we can so completely lose track of people whom we idolized or had a crush on at one point in our lives:

very sad news. She was one of those "every school boy's dream" type crushes. I'm sorry that she fell on such hard times. RIP

Well, it looks like the initial autopsy reports are indicating that childhood actress Erin Moran died from the results of Stage Four cancer of an undisclosed origin, and not from initial reports of a possible heroin overdose.

Still, it's sad that Ms. Moran has passed at such a young age, and after a rough professional and personal life post-'Happy Days'. Echoing Joker's statement, she was also one of my boyhood crushes, especially from about 1976-77 onward. Like so many other former child actors and actresses, she couldn't be seen for more than their iconic character, which is a shame.

Godspeed, Ms. Moran, and thank you very much.
