Okay all you nerds and nerdettes, here's today's big question: if you were going to purchase a video/computer game, knowing that it would be the last game you would ever purchase, what would that game be?

I would choose "Never Winter Nights" for the PC. It's old now, but it came with a tool set that allowed you to create new levels.

I wish there was something like this today.

Arma 3. Endless user made content. Mount and Blade is a close second. Both offer sandbox style play too.
