The last Vietnam Veteran just retired from the NYPD. The generation is passing.
Col Moore was an exceptional officer, committed to his men and his mission. He also had a great deal of respect for his enemy.
RIP, it is certainly deserved.

Rest in Peace, Sir!
May you be met with "Welcome Home" as you enter heaven's gates
and join the Vietnam veterans who preceded you. Thank you for your service, your valor, the example of your leadership, teachings for the officers who served with and after you and your writings.

A fine gentleman.

I met him several years ago in Decatur, Alabama during the Spirit of America festival. He was kind enough to sign my copy of "We Were Soldiers Once". He even asked me about my service in the '91 Gulf War and thanked me for my service to our country. He was one of the very first people to say that to me and I was very touched by that gesture.

He will be sorely missed. I hope I'll get to see him at the Fiddler's Green…

Wow. Pretty soon the only version of history we'll have left will be what Hollywood shows.

Dan, that's a pretty black and white way of looking at things. There will still be books and oral histories even after the last veteran passes, you know.
