Pancreatic cancer is nasty.

I liked his character and acting in the original Battlestar Galactica, and even more in the reimagining!

He was always a huge proponent of the BSG reboot. His version presented in the 90s was never produced but the 2005 series was. I did like the new one better. He was also a recurring character in that show, though this time a bad guy.

RIP Apollo.

I respect Mr Hatch for embracing BSG2 after his own effort to revive Galactica was not taken up by the powers that be. He definitely added to the storyline.

I saw him in person at DragonCon a few years back. He was one of the judges for an event called "Iron Artist", an Iron Chef take-off. Two artists competed by painting a theme chosen by the audience, with the resulting works being auctioned for charity. While the artists worked, the celebrity judges kept the crowd entertained by answering questions, improvisation, etc. When things got a bit slow, Mr. Hatch got up and announced that he would take on anyone in thumb-wrestling. He did so with two or three attendees, in front of the whole crowd -- a grown man, a noted actor, playing a kids' game in front of an audience. So when I heard he had passed on, it really hurt. He wasn't just some guy I had seen on TV, he was a funny, creative human being whom I had had the good fortune to meet.

Rest in peace, Richard.

That's sad, the original BG got me into sci-fi gaming.

Thumb wrestling…

Well flying those Vipers would help train up his thumb.

He was my hero as a kid and I drew vipers on everything and wanted a Viper helmet so much it hurt (never got one, though). Godspeed Mr. Hatch.

He was an excellent addition to NuBSG. RIP, sir.

His was my favorite character in the original series. Captain Apollo was the professional soldier and good family man. I wasn't a whole lot older than the Boxy character then and I use to kind of wish that my dad was as cool.

Richard Hatch was a class act and a big part of my childhood. He'll be missed.
