The quality of the editing of this concert video is unique in my YouTube experience. Incredible, really. The camera work is right up to the wood grain, and the fibers on the bows, the beads of sweat, etc.

Valery Gergiev is the quintessence of the "mad Russian". He could play Rasputin.

Indeed it is very good.

One of my favorite pieces. Introduced to it not as classical music but when I heard it being played on a record (remember those?) by Renaissance in "The Wherehouse" at the time the best music store in San Diego.

My introduction to it as well. I believe the Renaissance album was a "tribute to" or "influenced by" Scheherazade rather than the actual piece itself. It did cause me to track down the original and listen to it. Both are beautiful.

edit: I had a bit of a crush on Annie Haslam back in the day.
