Scratch one 2006 Honda CRV.

Turning left through a gap left for us in a long line of stopped cars. Young man decides at the same moment to zip down the open turning lane. Wham.

Fortunately, we're all okay. The side airbags deployed, and my wife only has a bruised knuckle from the impact with the bag, and a little mild stiffness. Everyone walked away, no other injuries (though now I hear a "cricket" sound in my right ear every time I hiccup or stifle a burp).

Insurance will probably total my car, which we had to leave in the parking lot of a CVS drugstore in Kentucky. The right front tire is jammed against the suspension (I think that's what it is; I'm not a car dude). We were on our way home from dropping my son off at college after Christmas break. Had to get a rental car, on a Friday evening after 5 PM. Not easy, but Enterprise came through.

So I'm still having nightmares about what could have happened to the love of my life. And I'm thrilled beyond belief with the integrity and safety features of that old Honda. So, yeah, I'm probably gonna find the same exact model. Hard to beat a car that just saved your wife's life.

Glad to hear you are all safe and sound.

Glad you folks are okay. Could have been much worse.

I'm glad you're all fine, Parzival.

Glad you're able to talk about it. For all the recent press, airbags save lives.

Not nice being in a car accident, glad you're OK.

Best wishes.

Glad you and yours are OK Mr P, Honda are not bad cars and I'd say replacing with the same is a good idea. Hope that kid gets a good "talking" to.

Glad both of you are safe. Cars are replaceable loved ones aren't. Second your shout out to Enterprise I have always had good experiences with them as well.

Been there, done that. The car holding the opening even waved me through. Got ticketed for "failure to yield" and a totaled Lincoln Town Car. T-Boned by an SUV. Not sure a lesser car even with air bags would have done as well.

But like you, glad to have walked away safely from it.

Glad you and the Missus came through safely! I'm still driving my 2006 CR-V, which was ranking a 'best all-around' in it's class when released. It's not flashy, but it's a good, solid vehicle.

Yep, we loved ours, too. 209K+ miles on the odometer, still ran great, no leaks, no fuss, regular maintenance, and safe. Plus it still had a full spare. And I liked the mildly boxy shape, too. The 2007-current ones are bland curves that look like everything else on the road. Meh.
