My surprise favorite of the year, a comedy-romance and homage to the MGM musicals from the '50s. Great escapist fare and the perfect movie for date night. Read my review here: link |

I'll go with Weasel or HvS to see this, but only if they buy me a real fancy dinner first…like Arby's or Golden Corral or some such. |

I saw it last night, and while I enjoyed it well enough, my "MGM Musical Lovin' Wife" (tm) thought it was a near miss. |

Saw it last night. ======================================== MINOR SPOILER ALERT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ======================================== I was worried after the two big production numbers that smashed into me right at the beginning (great camera work though on the first one!), but once it settled down, it was very enjoyable. My wife didn't like the ending though. |

What???!!! Get out, Arbys is very affordable! My wife didn't like the ending though. That's probably because the movie shifted in tone from a bright and cheerful MGM musical to a Jacques Demy downer. I had no problem with it. The movie's more poignant and indelible for it. Here's an excellent "second look" review from a much better critic than I. I find his analysis to be impeccable: link |
