The wonders of technology! Now individual workers can manually handle each individual part in inventory, manually search for an open spot on the shelves to put it, manually count each individual part, manually certify they have put the part in the bin, and then record it all with the Tech Scanner… and then write the process code and initial the process label manually.
The only way this works at all is that a computer somewhere ( I don't even know if it's on-site) organizes this mess. If the system 'goes down' the whole thing falls apart, since almost every job in the warehouse depends on the Scanners… which are dated, worn out, and there are never enough charged batteries for them. One can deal with a partial failure of an individual scanner by shaking it vigerously, but otherwise it has to re-boot, which takes 5-8 minutes. I have refrained from banging them against the wall or throwing them across the room… so far.
Okay, I'm ready to go back to cat-herding.
