Eight years later they would shut down that operation to reopen their restaurant using their new "Speedee Service System." The renovated restaurant, simply called McDonald's, used an innovative assembly line technique to speedily prepare its nine menu items, including soft drinks, pie, potato chips, and coffee. Don't know when this was written, but the availability of all day breakfast has reversed its downward trend.

I very seldom eat fast food, but McDonald's bottom line was hurting until they went with the all day breakfast.

This dates me…..but when I was attending college the McDonald's across the street from the campus was the go-to lunch spot. A burger, fries and a shake and you got change back from your dollar.

And yes it was probably crap then, but you are going to school so you are young, stupid and broke.

You're right. That does date you.

The problem with McD's and BK are that they have so many menu choices, they rarely make anything fresh anymore, and rewarmed/barely warm fast food sucks.

It's fast, but rather bland, and tasteless.

That's why In-N-Out and others like it are literally eating their lunch, since they've adopted and stuck to the old skool method of a limited menu, served fresh and hot, and quickly.
