I would also like some advice as to which games are REALLY worth getting.

Thanks!

Any of the Witcher series for sure. What type of games do you like?

Yes Witcher games are great. The first one suffers gameplay wise. But the second is gold.
The 3rd one is huge (100 hours of gameplay) plus 15 hours, plus 25 hours with the two expansion packs. It's almost too big.

Sorry for the delay in replying, Gents. Still on the fence.

Looking into the Witcher stuff though, thanks to your advice!

I'm in fact playing Witcher 3 again. Total time so far is 110 hours, I'm level 24 out of possible 100

I'd say skip WItcher 1, it's dreadful, 2 has a great story but the gameplay feels a bit stilted.

3 is generally regarded quite highly.

Gunfreak Supporting Member of TMP19 Dec 2016 11:41 a.m. PST

I don't think the first was dreadful. Yes the fighting mechanics are horrid. But the story is perfectly fine.

Weasel21 Dec 2016 8:16 a.m. PST

The story is decent, but at the end of the day its still a game :)

The series always kind of feels like someone had told them how Assassins Creed worked, but they never played it themselves and just tried to recreate it from memory.

(to be fair, most action rpg's have junk combat with one or two exceptions)

The combat in Wichter 2 and 3 is far superior to AC.

AC is, wait, hit button, hit button again. repeat, it's almost completely impossible to die in AC.

Least inspirational combat system created.

I can fight and fight in witcher no problem, but AC is just a chore, and since the story is so silly. I get bored of evey AC game after about 3 hours.

I've now passed 125 hours in Witcher 3.

The biggest fault of Wicher 3 is the open world fall pits. A mountain is far in the distance, it would take days to go there. oh wait it was just 350 steps away…

Oh look a peaceful village, surrounded on all sides by monsters and bandits. Sure a nice place to live, why don't they move? because every Bleeped texting village is surrounded by monsters and bandits.

If you ever played Diablo in any form, then get Path Of Exile – totally free, amazing skill set to allow almost any type of character you can think of – EG you can start as a mage but go melee based. Great game.

Yes path of exile is fantastic. And lovely graphics.

Weasel22 Dec 2016 12:06 p.m. PST

I find a lot of open world games suffer really bad from what you mention Gunfreak.

Its supposed to make the world feel bigger, but it makes it feel like a phone booth :/
