Today is an annual event at the high school where I teach. Every student and every faculty member is expected to be on campus today, but there are no classes in session. Instead, the four grade levels compete against each other in a variety of games and events, for pride and bragging rights. All are dressed in athletic clothing (or at least t-shirts and jeans), in class colors, faces and bodies painted in vibrant matching hues. Did any of you have a scheduled no-classes school day? If so, do you remember it fondly? Waste of time? |

I never had those when growing up (late 60s-70s). However both my boys had days like that, usually in the spring though. |

Never in my 31 years of teaching in high school. Everything sounds like fun except the face and body painting. That is very uncool. |

it was always at the end of the year called it Field Day. Same here. Only in middle school though. Never did that in high school. |

It was indeed called "Field Day." Fond memories. Pulled my ribbons from an old tarnished frame my Mother made to keep them safe after 53 years. Track and field events including a tug of war between grades marked the all day event with first, second and third place ribbons awarded. Not sure if such ribbons are given… or accomplishments celebrated anymore….
