An international team of scientists from the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) is investigating mysterious signal spikes emitting from a 6.3-billion-year-old star in the constellation Hercules—95 light years away from Earth. The implications are extraordinary and point to the possibility of a civilization far more advanced than our own.

Ok so my BS detector is going off a bit here. Mysterious signals that do not indicate any artificial source yet. But that then translates to a civilization far more advanced than ours? Projecting a bit?

Secondly, it was discovered by the Russians, over a year ago. Sorry for a blanket condemnation, but an awful lot of the "Russian scientific discoveries" turn out to be bogus. Remember the "GMO mosquitoes are causing Zika" claims from just a few months ago?

Anyway, I'll watch this to see if the story has legs…..but I'm not holding my breath.

Let's not forget the sun with a ring of manufactured structures around it.
Oh wait. It's not there anymore.

Maybe it's the old "Ivan Petrovich left his lunch pail on the antenna again".

Just because a bird call sounds like "Bob White" doesn't mean he's trying to tell me that's his name…..

Yeah, I'll wait and see what they'll say next week.

"…some experts were warning the signal might be merely interference, and possibly military in origin — and it now seems that that's the case."

The above is from a recent NPR report which appears to debunk the E-T is calling story. You can read it here:

Statistically given the vastness of space we cannot be the only planet among billions with life. And given that extremely strong possibility the chance that another species has gained intelligence enough as well as the will and desire to industrialize is also extremely plausible. The problem is to quote part of Douglas Adams is that "Space is big." We have yet to figure out the technological means that would enable us to cross the cosmos without some kind of generational star ship. We may be as Carl Sagan once opined be the first to gain that technology which may be why we have not heard from anyone else as of yet.
