The chief of security for the olympics was mugged while leaving an olympic event. I pity the poor populace that has to live in that city as well as the unwitting tourists that travel into this morass.

Even a Judo medallist was attacked, albeit on the Copacabana beach.

Just need a bit of "cupping" and he will have had the full Rio Olympic experience. This olympics has been like watching those slow motion crash tests, you know what's gonna happen but you still want to watch the test dummy launch itself through the front windscreen.

Yea, heard about those issues. Pretty amazing and shocking news.

Would love to visit Rio, since it seems so interesting and scenic, but given all the downsides, doesn't sound like it's a wise decision.

Rather like taking your life in your hands going to Mexico as well. Granted, lots of people do it, and have no problems, but many get mugged, robbed, held for ransom, or occasionally killed too.

Some of it seems to be going off well, though other issues are very troubling/disturbing, e.g. all the crime there, and the contaminated water venues.

Even the diving pool isn't safe.

Can't believe the rowers, sailors, and others on the water are chancing the contaminated bay there.

I even heard talk of triathletes as well, and am wondering where they can swim safely?

The bay certainly should be off limits, and from what I've read and seen on TV, the bull sharks close inshore off the ocean beaches would certainly make swimming there "interesting".

I'd drop out as an athlete before chancing those waters.

A pity they didn't move those events to another location for the safety of the participants.

Apparently, one female sailor who was expected to medal has come down with an upset stomach, and she believes it is due to the exposure to the contaminated water they're sailing in there.
