You can tell how bored I was last night, because I watched "Support Your Local Gunfighter". This was still in its wrapper. (I have no idea how many years Rocky Russo had it.) And furthermore, I had some notion that it would be "new" to me. Ahh, no. The ONE part of it that I remember, at all, is Garner's sweating out the roulette wheel and losing everything on number 23. Everything else was a blank, including the fact that almost everyone in it was recast from "Support Your Local Sheriff", a year before, and by far the better (or not as bad) film (I liked Joan Hackett better than Suzanne Pleshette). Along about halfway into it, I turned to my wife (who did not stick it out) and observed: "Hey, this is a very loose retelling of Yojimbo, or was it Sanjuro?" Of course, Wiki knew the answer to that all along. But I felt mildly satisfied that in my almost comatose state of mind I had managed to notice the "similarity". But I had no problem recalling "Last Man Standing" as (possibly) the most recent remake of the "gangsta" story…. |

Well, not really: youtu.be/TEJ6CzG9zVc The clip comp I linked doesn't convey the full effect. For that, watch the whole movie. Then watch Star Wars. Of course, he used a lot of other stuff, too. |
