Reminds me of my cousin. Her husband is Welsh, and when in Wales she got used to going into shops and have the locals stop talking English and start talking in Welsh. As I said, her husband is Welsh and she is quite fluent in the langauge -she always made a point of very politely wishing them good day as she left.

"When you're in the UK you should really be speaking English," he demanded.

The UK only has one de jure official language, Welsh in Wales. None anywhere else. Regardless of the existence of a de jure official language, how people speak to their kids is their business. A de jure official language only governs public interactions such as written or oral contracts, what language you trial will be in, what must be on road signs, etc.

Ive always felt that people who are offended by foreign languages are usually too stupid to learn one.
