This man is Robert Whitehead. He was a British engineer who invented the naval torpedo. In a dark sense of irony his invention and fame meant that his grand-daughter, Agathe Whitehead, used to get invited to launch ships. In 1911 she attended the launch of a submarine of the Imperial Austrian Navy. There she fell in love with, and later married, the submarine's captain Georg, and went on to have 7 children with him. Unfortunately Agathe contracted scarlet fever from her youngest child, and died. Captain Von Trapp later married his children's tutor, and thus caused songs about lonely goatherd that meant that 'Doctor Zhivago' didn't win the Best Picture Oscar in 1965. Bastard. |

Well one movie was about a love story set in a time of war. The other movie was about a love story set in a time of war. Yes one should have won but didn't because the end was anything but happy. |
