There's something about the remake of the "Ghostbusters" film that has viewers trashing the trailer in numbers never seen before. The official trailer for the reboot comes 30 years after the supernatural comedy starring Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray and Sigourney Weaver became an immediate cult classic. The new film, which stars Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig alongside Aussie Chris Hemsworth, will be in theatres in the US on July 15. The film has been highly-anticipated by the "Ghostbusters" faithful, who watched with interest when the trailer dropped on March 3. Then they hit the downward-facing thumb with vigor. The trailer has been viewed a whopping 28 million times. Of those, more than 200,000 people gave it a thumbs up. But more importantly, a record number "disliked" the trailer. As of April 30, more than 527,000 people disliked the trailer, a higher number than for any other movie trailer in YouTube history. According to entertainment website Screencrush.com, the trailer for the film Ridiculous Six, which received a 0 per cent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, only had about 6000 dislikes on YouTube. In the comments section, viewers took aim at the new direction the franchise has taken."Who are you gonna call? Hopefully a new director next time." one viewer wrote. "If only I could dislike this more than once," another wrote. One fan went so far as to ask Sony Pictures to "cancel the movie". "Please dont (sic) show it. It will do more damage than good, no one is going to watch it. I certainly am not going to watch it and I have an unlimited cinema card. It is not worth my time, you have just tried to make a quick buck and it is going to end up losing LOADS of money and damage your reputation." Those behind the film can take some comfort in knowing it's not the most disliked video overall on YouTube. The film clip for Justin Bieber's "Baby" takes top spot on that list with 6 million thumbs down. Psy's "Gangnam Style" video has 1.5 million thumbs down, but that was viewed more than 2.5 billion times. link Now I would agree that this movie is horrible and the dislikes should probable be over a million. It will be the winner of the Razzie this year it that bad. |

Lame script. Lame performances. No laughs. |

Oooooooookay. Wasn't planning on going to see it. Good judgement on my part. Just watched the original over the weekend. Another Harold Ramis script that will live throughout the ages. |

Not surprised. I wrote it off as soon as I saw Kristen Wiig was in it. |

Supposed to be a comedy, right? Right? Sadly, when a trailer usually has all the best scenes in it, I didn't see any good ones. And we are falling back on the fat sassy loud mouth black woman for comic relief? Sad. |

I'll go see it. I think Leslie Jones is funny and I'd see it for her alone. |

We will be seeing it.It has a great cast and what I have seen struck me as very funny. |

I find Leslie Jones loud-mouthed and annoying on SNL. She plays basically the same character, an angry African-American woman who scares the crup out of white people. It's not that funny and gets old pretty fast. I also find Melissa McCarthy to be annoying and grossly overrated. The other two members, Kristen Wiig and Kate McKinnon, are pretty good. Like its predecessor, this reboot leans heavily on SNL. I'll probably check it out anyway so I can critique it on my movie review blog. |

TMP = Misogynists R Us! 8)= One of tje cast members is black, so we are all rascists as well. We need to check our priviledge and pay to see the movie we don't want to see or the rascist patriarchy wins. |

I think if you noticed the comments in the post above Nazrat which was made by zoneofcontrol you might understand better the misogyny comment. But I would agree that TMP tends to be mostly a boys club. |

My complaint with it was it looked like someone just rewrote the original script with a gender swap on the characters. If they wanted to reboot it then why not do a 20 years later things where the original guys did cameo's from other countries where they had new franchises set up and let the gals run the NY office with a totally new bad guy? Would have at least been something new, not rewashed and hung out to dry. |
WarWizard | 04 May 2016 4:08 a.m. PST |
I have to admit I was expecting a lot more. I am not a fan on any of the SNL cast, so adding anyone from SNL does nothing to enhance the appeal of this movie. I am expecting it to be luke warm at best. My daughter and I really love Ghostbusters, so we will probably go see it just to determine how bad it is. |

Such a reaction to the trailer ? It's not that bad. Misogyny – now that is bad and rather rife in certain parts of "geekdom" (how I hate that word!). It's not as if the original Ghostbusters was such a great film. We've all seen better. |
Mithmee | 04 May 2016 7:15 a.m. PST |
It's not that bad. Yes it is that bad. The first time I saw it (YouTube) I had to stop watching it within the first 20 seconds. The second time (movie theatre) it did not get any better. Hollywood ruined this movie by making it like a bad SNL skit. |

I was really hoping this would be a good movie and didn't care that they decided to make it four women. Makes no difference, could still be great. And the trailer was pretty boring. I hate to make this judgement from the trailer, but it kinda seems that, like Force Awakens, they were so busy patting themselves on the back for not being sexist that they forgot not to be racist. I'm pretty sure it's racist. Also, did anyone catch the line about someone building a device that attracts or amplifies supernatural energy or activity or some such? That means the ultimate villain is going to be human, where in the first two movies the ultimate menace was supernatural. That's a big, big shift in theme. When the GBs are protecting us from the supernatural it means all us humans are in this together, even if some people are too dumb to see it. If the GBs are going to discover human selfishness behind the supernatural threat, that means that we humans don't stand together, that we are our own worst enemy. The folks behind the menace might even be motivated by and therefor a proxy for greed or the patriarchy or capitalism or industrialism or fundamentalism or some other thing. While the '80s GB was a fun aspirational film, that one line hinted to me that this is going to be a preachy film. Yay. I don't get preached to enough. But, hey, let's be optimistic. Maybe the person who made the trailer was either incompetent or wanted the film to fail. Maybe the movie will turn out to be great. That would be fun. I'd like another *good* Ghostbusters film. On the other hand, maybe there can only be one. |

Isn't it sexist to think that a little girl has to have a woman as a hero? If you suggested that a little boy should only look up to men as heroes the SJWs would be all over you. The inconsistency in the outrage market is staggering. |

Actually it doesn't. link There are quite a few things that a movie to make a profit or not and with $229 USDM means that this movie ended up. Being around $66 USDM in the red. |
