there is a hell of a lot of time between the iron age and pre-history.
comparing the two eras as equals is a tad childish.

I thought most prehistoric people who had milk animals made cheese. It's not one of those things that always gets invented because A) you almost inevitably discover it by accident, and B) it solves one of the key problems of the pre-refrigeration era – food spoilage.

Cheese, fish sauce, pickling, drying, etc, one of my professors called this "portable, potable protein."
