I hope I've got the nomenclature for this aircraft right but anyway, there were a couple buzzing round over Windsor yesterday. Am I correct in thinking only the US uses them? And if so, what were they doing in the UK yesterday? I'm guessing their presence is connected to Obama's visit next week – does this sound likely? Doug |

You're correct that the USMC and USAF are the only current users. I understand that the USAF has several at bases in the UK, but it is also possible that the ones over Windsor may be connected to the upcoming presidential visit. BTW, the Japanese Self-Defense Force has some Ospreys on order. |

There's at least one UK-based unit (7th Special Operations Squadron out of Mildenhall, so CV-22s rather than MV-22s) but you're probably right that the activity is prep for the presidential visit – there's definitely a dinner with the queen on the itinerary, and if it's at Windsor Castle, US special ops sniffing around beforehand would hardly be a surprise. |

There's something about an osprey that I can watch every time see one. Where I live osprey overflights are a daily occurrence. I love how they rattle the windows. |

I read elsewhere that the unit that flies the Presidential helicopter (Marine Helicopter Squadron 1, apparently) also has Osprey's for various Presidential uses. Maybe these came from that unit rather than the USAAF one? Doug |

There were two here for the Presidential visit to Brisbane in 2014. They flew over the roof of my house, taking him from the local golf course back to the RAAF base at Amberley. |

Yes, they were/are part of the Presidential air armada. |
