I guess this could be a poll suggestion, but I can't cross post out of Plus. That's dumb.
Anyway, my own criteria are that they don't need any stupid autotune. They don't have to be beautiful, but my selections are. Their voices are unique. And I could listen to them all night.

In no particular order:
Linda Ronstadt
Sinnead O'Connor
Alison Krause
Ann Wilson
Kim Weston

Maria Brink
Carly Simon
Alanis Morissette
Chrissie Hynde
Debbie Harry

Nina Simone tops my all-time list, and probably Nerina Pallot from the current generation as it were. There are probably dozens that could fit the criteria for me – those two top the list though.

OldGrenadier at work19 Apr 2016 4:30 a.m. PST

Stevie Nicks. Carly Simon. Beverly Sills.

Karellian Knight19 Apr 2016 4:37 a.m. PST

Melissa Etheridge, Trisha Yearwood.

Coelacanth19 Apr 2016 4:39 a.m. PST

Annie Lennox (Eurythmics)
Kate Bush
Harriet Wheeler (The Sundays)
Deborah Harry (Blondie)
Basia
Imogen Heap (Frou Frou)
Annette Strean (Venus Hum)
Sade
Maria McKee (Lone Justice)
Chrissie Hynde (The Pretenders)

I could go on; I really like women vocalists. Most are in no particular order, except the top three. Annie Lennox is one of the great voices of her generation; Kate Bush has a gift for innovation and a unique sound; something about Harriet Wheeler's voice breaks my heart just a bit.

I am very fond of emotive female vocalists. I fall in love easily. If there are any of these gals you haven't heard of, look them up.

I like many that have been listed above, but how about;
Mahalia Jackson
Odeta

No objections to the previous entries, but nobody mentioned any of the "Lilith Faire" crowd, or the early 90's alternative rockers? Coelacanth covered some of the "must haves", but allow me to append:

Sarah McLachlan (maybe her later stuff got boring, but what a voice. She's certainly worthy of inclusion in the list)
Paula Cole
Tanya Donelly
Kay Hanley
Dolores O'Riordan (of The Cranberries)
