When I start my laptop, it doesn't connect to the router. Other things do with no problem- tablet etc. It offers mine as an option, but fails to connect, and troubleshooter doesn't work. It does connect to the BT public system (which I could use if I could find my pass word and ID, but it is insecure).

I've switched the router off and on again.

Odd thing is if I connect directly to the router by cable for a few seconds, the wifi works – until I switch the laptop off.

Any Ideas?

I almost always have to connect my desk top to the wireless and sign in. its been that way for years. something got changed in the OS and it does not auto connect despite all boxes being checked to do so.

Two thoughts…

You may be mistyping your password. Yes, I know you're sure you're doing it right, but there's obviously nothing wrong with the router, so this is the first thing to rule out.

Second, something is twigged with the lap top. Do whatever you have to do with your particular OS to straighten out bad behavior. Zap the PRAM or erase the registry or do whatever. Ditto for not auto connecting. Computer hygiene time!

And all of a sudden – everything was fine…

Nope, no idea.
