I liked the first episode, even though there are some continuity holes.
There are a number of significant items that will become clear as additional episodes are shown (total of twelve this season, I believe) but some of them are done a touch too quickly IMHO and you might miss them. I picked up a few more things watching it the second time on YouTube.

My friend doesn't come in until Episode Three. He's one of the "Vigilantees" in town, and though deeply involved in the conflict, doesn't get killed this season.
It isn't known yet whether it will get picked up for a second season, depending on ratings. The season "ends" with a lot of territory yet to be covered.
