Hi all.

I just used my new Canon MX492 ADF (automatic document feeder) feature for the first time this morning (I hate learning curves for new software, creating an "interface" with my brain; it hurts). A six page document stacked and *beeped* properly. The scanner pulled the pages down one at a time nicely (without drawing two pages in at the same time, like it did the first time). Trouble is: the PDF file flipped page 4 and 5 UPSIDE DOWN!?!?!? WTH??? HOW DID IT DO THAT? WHY DID IT DO THAT?????????????????????

I've just run it again, and now page 2 and 5 are upside down. I'm going insane….

WTF??? I go to "Just Answer Canon Printer Support" and I will be paying $26 USD if I am one hundred percent satisfied with an answer to my problem??? I don't think so. Rapacious bastards. What a racket. I am within an ace of taking this machine back to the "Buy More" and throwing it at them….

Oh, I see: I almost fell for an "Ad" service. Now I'm waiting for ten a.m. EST, so I can talk to an official Canon techie, who is "trained in that model". Heh, the first techie I got on the phone said that he's "not trained in that model". AT least he's frank about it….

Oh, never mind. "Move along. Nothing to see here."

Tech support guy learned something new this morning too. I unchecked the (default) box, "Detect the orientation of text document and rotate image."

No doubt that is useful for morons who get their stacked pages upside down shuffled in with right side up. I do not. But, my hand writing evidently screws with the "detector", and flips random pages upside down for me. Thanks a lot.

Problem solved.

Cache this topic….

Thanks. I needed another anecdote about how having machines do things for people isn't always a win argument. I owe you a beer.
