The latest Japanese warship, a carrier, has been called the "Kaga". Personally, I don't have a problem with that, but it seems there are some that do. link |

I have a dim view of Japan's relationship with it's WWII history, but Kaga is the name of a historic province for pity's sake. It's not like in 1967, when the West Germans christened their newest destroyers Lütjens, Mölders, and Rommel. Or our own USN having a USS Chancellorsville and a USS San Jacinto. |

Seems entirely appropriate. We name our ships after our historic vessels, sadly not as often as for politicos these days! |

I have no problem with it. As a matter of fact, I kind of like that the JMSDF are using these names. I'm sure that they're sending a rather subtle message to China and North Korea. |
