Hello all, have put a review of GMT's Conquest of Paradise up on the old blog. In summary, it's a very playable empire-building, civ-lite type game set in Polynesia c.500 AD and dominated by resource management and judicious use of force. I recommend it highly, but wish the counters were a little less boring! More here: link

I wish the game was less boring. Only played once and will not play again. |

Well, each to his own I guess, cfuzwuz! Cheers, Aaron |

My gaming buddies seemed to like it ok but nobody ever says they want to play it again but they like the horrible Empires in Space or as I call it Accountants in Space. What a piece of crap that game is. |

This is on my list of "want to try but not badly enough to plunk money down". Maybe at a con. Very interesting topic, lots of people have said good things about it. GMT's artwork is often… restrained. Not bad, but not exciting. That may be because they are a serious wargame company that occasionally puts out a family game or semi-euro, such as this or Leaping Lemmings. But at least the art isn't ugly, distracting, or dumb. |

But at least the art isn't ugly, distracting, or dumb. Nope. Just dull, drab, and uninteresting. |

Well, I guess this thread'll learn me for mentioning one quibble in an otherwise wholly positive game review! |

Naw…just the curmudgeons who haven't played it yet kicking a dead horse, 'cause that's what we do. Actually, aside from the artwork, there were other folks who were just "whelmed" by it. JJ |

Apparently the counters are going to be reworked for the second edition, so it must be a common complaint… Thanks to you all for taking the time to read and comment :) |
