Can I go to a reputable independent computer deal (Mom and Pop store) and ask them to configure a computer to run DOS for me so I don't have to mess w/DOS box, etc?

Just asking to see if I was being a real "Looney Toons" in my thinking.

Try D-Fend – its a Windows front end for DOSbox

(I know not an answer to the original question, but at least its on topic!)

without buying an old puter that is a 386 or older I am not certain that is possible. I am sure it will not boot in a 64 bit architecture and I do not think it will in a 32 bit either. that is why they created DosBox.

You might check out running Dos emulation under Linux instead of a windows environment. with it you might get it to boot directly into Dos instead of Windows then dosbox.

They could set up a virtual machine running FreeDOS. Should take all of 5 minutes to do.
