It's a good time so if you're in Eastern North Carolina please stop in and say hello.

Macon is a superb example of a period coastal
fortification.

The original Bogue Inlet fort, Dobbs, was started
in 1756 and never finished.

The second, Fort Hamilton, was constructed and served
for years as a guard over the Inlet but erosion and a
hurricane (1826) swept it into the ocean.

Finally, Macon was constructed between 1826 and 1834.

The site has a very nice swimming beach, public
bathhouse and restrooms (currently closed for
renovation) and of course is within easy drive of
many other attractions, not the least of which is
the town of Beaufort, NC.
