I've just had to replace my Kindle (the original got dropped on to hard flooring once too often). I've got another Kindle Touch (apparently a newer version than I had before). When I turn if off, instead of the relaxing photos of random stationary (as in pens, paencils etc) that appeared on my previous one, I now get ads for random books. Any idea if this "feature" can be turned off.

It's not at all a big deal but if there's a choice, I'd prefer not to get these ads.

They use the ads to keep the price down, so I doubt it. They sell versions without the "special offers," but they cost a fair amount more.

Last time I did that they said I would have to pay a subscription fee without the ads. I decided to leave them on. This was on a Paperwhite.

I think the price difference is $20 USD, and you can retroactively pay the $20 USD and get rid of the ads. I can't find that on the site, though. To talk to an actual human about your Kindle you can call 1- 866-321-8851.

There's probably a way to turn off the ads for free, but that would require "jailbreaking" the kindle, and violating the user agreement in at least two ways.

Thanks you all. Now I see what's behind it, I'll just ignore the ads…

Use a hammer.

You already fixed the first one, IDK why you got another…
