Belkin™ power strip, or, "Relocatable Power Tap", with six outlets. Used for months on one side of the room to hook up a TV, VCR and digital conversion box. My wife has been watching DVDs that the TV is hooked up to the player to view from. No problem. Now, I move the Belkin power strip across the room to where she has her laptop set up. She likes the idea of a power strip with "surge suppressor", since my sister had her desktop PC fried last month after a power outage. (I tell my wife, "The surge suppressor capacity of a power strip is minimal at best, good, maybe, for calculators and lights but little else – but I am only repeating what I've read/been told, I know nothing.") She feels better using the power strip, so I plug in her speakers and computer. She turns the 'puter on, and it fails to boot. After repeated tries, I remove the plug from the power strip and plug directly into the wall. Voila!? the 'puter boots. What's up with that? If there is power to the power strip sufficient to run a TV and VCR and speakers, whatever, why won't the 'puter boot from the power strip?… |

"Reset"? That is an on-off button. I know it says "reset", now I know. I never looked closely enough to see the raised lettering before, and just assumed "on-off". "Happens all the time", heh. I have the twin of this Belkin power strip under my desk with all MY 'puter stuff hooked up to it, and in all the years I've been using it I've never once rocked the "reset" switch. Well, here goes, "testing"…. |

GWA – you are correct in your assessment for the power strip. It barely stops a dirty look, let alone a real surge. For that you want a surge protector that is designed as a surge protector and not a multi-plug outlet. Glad you found the reset button. |

A good surge protector will have jacks for the electric feed and the phone and cable lines as well. Protect all the possible entry points of a surge. |
