Disclaimer: The usual…but toss in a side salad with blue cheese dressing…. So it's been a while…. Here's some updates: 1: Our corporate hq now has a person with the job title "Director Of Caring". I asked how I can apply for the position of "Director of Not-Caring"…and I got blank looks and the blinky eyes…. 2: Our corporate president now has his own jet airplane. They had a contest at corp hq to "Name his plane!"… I tossed in some suggestions, "Flight 19", "Ye Olde Hangar Queen", etc….Needless to say none of my ideas were accepted. 3: We recently had a massive shared network drive issue that if it hadn't been caught, could've resulted in 100% drive data loss. Believe it or not I was the one that caught it, and notified higher up. While everyone else was in jump through the hoops mode to make sure it was being taken care of, the Director of IT, sent out his first and only email of the day…Regarding the upcoming weekend Corporate Soccer Tournament and how he hopes to see folks there…. Gotta love the SoCal lifestyle…glad I am not there…. Submitted respectfully; Murphy |

I escaped that asylum some years ago. Except for the weather, I don't miss it… |

Director of IT follies brings back memories. One fine morning our DIT sent out an all-company email decrying and discouraging the use of profanity in company email. By that afternoon he was "no longer with the company". |

I used to work in a "Corporate Environment", as the System Manager for the library mainframe (this was before PCs really took off). One time I got dinged by my grand-boss for not sending out emails that our computer was down and what I was doing to fix it, every 15 minutes. My explanation that: "If the computer is down, I can't send emails" was not accepted. This was the same boss that complained to my immediate boss that "The computer has been down for a week and Roderick hasn't fixed it or notified the staff." My boss went into her office and turned on her terminal… I no longer work for said entity. |

Oh yes, Murphy, so right… Corporate and government = same and what a shame… How to stifle all initiative by technological means thus dumbing down the playing field so that everyone can participate at that fifth grade level discourse. |

In my now former place of work, there were a couple of instances at managerial level in the IT department of a high level manager not having a clue what a database was and no programming experience. Kind of like putting an untrained civilian in as an infantry or tank company commander, if you ask me. -- Tim |

Agreed Tim, But its not unlike still having government employees who don't use computers.. |

Our corporate hq now has a person with the job title "Director Of Caring". And yet I cannot find a job. |
