Jupiter Ascending is some space opera movie starring Mila Kunis. It was supposed to come out last summer. The studio pushed to February 6th. Any info or news on it? Bomb or is it supposed to be descant? I might go see it anyway. I didn't bother with Interstellar. My local movie chain is running $5.00 USD Tuesdays for a movie or concessions combo. So if Jupiter Ascending tanks, I'm only out $10.00 USD. |

Is it toouch of a spoiler to GUESS that Sean Bean dies? |
45thdiv | 22 Jan 2015 6:43 a.m. PST |
No, most films that Sean Bean is in he dies. It's a given. |

I saw a really, really long trailer for it the other week that laid out the entire plot. Seriously, it was like a condensed version of the film. I think if you like very visual space operas and don't mind a retread "young adult fiction" plot line, you'll have your $5 USD worth. |

No, most films that Sean Bean is in he dies. It's a given. Unless he's playing Sharpe of course. |

Go see it anyway. It's sci-fi space opera from the Wachowskis. |
GarrisonMiniatures | 22 Jan 2015 10:27 a.m. PST |
Yes, but I suppose technically Sharpe was a series of TV Miniseries rather than a movie so it doesn't count. |

Its own website still touts February 6. |

From the trailer, it's the eternal story: seemingly ordinary person living in backwater turns out to be 'The One'. Helped by some guiding figure, they learn their true power just in time to prevail against seemingly overwhelming odds and save the world / galaxy / Universe. I'll watch it. |

They were showing the extended trailer when I went to see the Battle of the Five Armies. Looked like a formula for brain death to me. |

Well it tanked at a recent showing, had people walking out of the show. |
20thmaine | 30 Jan 2015 6:04 p.m. PST |
Yeah – but that was at The Sundance Festival. The list of film awards reads like a selection of films no-one has ever seen…. link I don't think Star Wars would have done very well there. What the Studio was thinking showcasing there I really can't imagine. |
Mithmee | 04 Feb 2015 8:48 p.m. PST |
True so that is not going to stop me from watching it. But you are right I don't think I have seen any of those award winners. |

People weren't walking out because they didn't "get it". :) I've heard nothing good on this one yet. I may catch it on Netflix sometime. |

A friend dragged me to go see it last night. It was awful. The story was lame and the acting was terrible. They tried to make up for it with lots of CGI action scenes but there was so much going on it was hard to see what was going on. DO yourself a favor and wait for cable or dvd if you must watch it. |

Did not think it was awful. The script & acting for sure could have been better, they saved a big chunk on budget there. Premise was not really as predictable as "the chosen one from a backwaters saves humanity," the movie twisted that trope a bit, enough to be interesting. Will wait for it to get to the $5 USD bin (but then, I do that for all movies except those I **REALLY** like.) |

My rule of thumb is if they start showing tons of commercials for the movie than it means it is going to be bad and they want to try and recoup their money in the first week or so before the news gets out that it isn't good. Seems I was right again on this movie. |
Extra Crispy | 14 Feb 2015 9:08 p.m. PST |
They moved it from the blockbuster season of summer to the wasteland of winter. What else do you need to know? |

Seen it now – looks great – but the plot is a total lemon. Hope there are spin-off toys. Could have done with the big fights being just a tad slower – there was probably some amazing CGI behind the impossible to follow blur of action. Maybe they should have made it even faster and halved the CGI bill – if you can't see it, it doesn't need to be good I do have one question – spaceships the size of planets, but no dentistry profession ? That's a bit weird isn't it ? If you've seen the film you'll know what I mean. |

Enjoyed it very much. Dialogue and acting were often cheesy, but given it's Space Operatic nature, that was kind of a feature for me. I partly agree with 20thmaine, the action was often hard to follow, not because it was badly choreographed, IMO, but because it was often obscured in a filter of blaster fire. However, I thought it had a perfectly cromulent space opera plot. The only big letdown for me was that Jupiter herself was pretty dull. A more interesting heroine would have livened up the middle act, when the werewolf supersoldier was detained from his usual MO of flying around on his rocket boots and blasting stuff. *SPOILER* For those who have seen it, how the heck did Sean Bean survive this movie, playing a vaguely mentor character no less? *SPOILER* |

Saw it today, found it very entertaining, don't be put off by the critics, visually stunning and really not a bad space opera plot. |
