Very sad. He was always a gentleman, always friendly, and one of the giants in game design.

He once wrote that he got the idea for Squad Leader from watching a game of D&D. He will be missed.

We're all better off for his life, not everyone has such impact. He changed the world, making it smarter, social in new ways, more fun. Anyone should be happy to improve things for others half that much.

Very sorry to hear about John Hill, I never met the man but I played and enjoyable his game designs over the years.

Oddball13 Jan 2015 10:58 a.m. PST

Thank you for the hours of entertainment my friends and I received from your games.

Squad Leader was one of my first steps into wargames.

Johnny Reb was played until the covers fell off.

Rest in Peace.

John was a brilliant man who wrote great rules, but more than that he was a kind and thoughtful friend. We will miss him.

He passed while I was on a business trip. I am stunned and saddened by his passing. I loved his rules. He made Board and Miniature Wargaming fun for so many people.

RIP John.
