Napoleon: Total War, Cossacks…something?

These games may be old, but new to me.

I have a HP Touch Smart 15 (Windows 8.1)…name me some games.

BUT…first…Does 8.1 work with DOS box, because I would love to install my old Age of Rifles and Barbarian General PC games rather than buy something new!

Any and all help requested!

First off make sure you are a member of these online digital download services:

Steam.com
Gog.com
Greenmangaming.com
gamersgate.com

That way you can price shop amongst them.

I like several of the Slitherine wargames – they cover a wide range of periods of warfare, and go from tactical to strategic, turn based to real time.

Some of the better ones have been porter over to iPad as well, though FoG is still a PC game.

Check out the website Abandonia.com bunchof old classic games from 80's till early 2000's. plus they usually keep up to date with DOS emulators. And the best part, it's free.

I have pist away more time on the Total War series than I dare say out loud. If you haven't played any of them yet, beware. They can be very engrossing and always challenging. For me they are like crack.

Jakse…do the games on Abandonia come with DOS emulators or you have to find/install one on your own first?

I recommend pike and shot. Turn based strategi, based of FOG renesanse rules.

Not sure how much power your rig has. But all total war games after medieval 2 does need alot of power to run.

Stear clear of empire total war. Napoleon is ok, but needs mods.
shogun is the best of the newer total war games. Rome is a faulty game. Bearley better then empire. There are also lots of great space ship games if you like sci fi. My favorites, beeing sins if a solar empire rebellion and star drive(star drive 2, comes out in January or february) star trek online us a good game. Fly around In a starship as a federation, klingon or romulan captain.

Crusader Kings 2 and Europa Universalis IV.

Grand strategy in the real sense of the word. Also, tell your family goodbye because they'll never see you again.

The "new" XCOM is quite good and plays very quickly. Enjoyable squad level tactical game.
