NOT 'thank you'. Listen to a news interview: guest spends their time money and effort to respond to interviewer's questions. Interviewer ends with 'thank you'. Guest almost always responds 'thank you'. FOR WHAT!? Happens 95% of the time.

Maybe it was a mutual exchange? In a fair exchange, thanks to both sides makes sense.

maybe
"thank you for having me on the show"
"thank you for choosing me instead of my competitor"
"thank you for giving me a forum to express my point of view"
??

Er…thank you for sharing? I just do not see the issue. Now misuse of the word decimate, yea that one gets my goat.

Listen to a news interview:

I think I've tracked down the root of your problem…

You're welcome.

Wizard Whateley16 Dec 2014 5:10 p.m. PST

I will never give up. I will die a bitter old man because of this. I say thank you, NPR, and I better hear 'you're welcome'.

I thought you were going to talk about real people. When I say "Thank you!", I frequently hear:

1)Yup
2)Uh-huh
3)Okay
4)Mmm

I am enamored with none of these responses.

'You are welcome and thank you for having me on', would be not inappropriate.

Or – 'No thank you for having me on.'

Of course the interviewer should have said – 'Thank you for being on the show.'

Heard 'you're welcome' this morning from a Russian journalist who had just been interviewed on NPR.

Yesterday a Doctor was being interviewed as a supporter of one aspect of the issue being discussed At the end the radio host thanked theDoctor for coming on the show. The Doctor replied "Thank you for having me and allowing me to express my opinion" That is a great reply
