So I've had XCOM: Enemy Unknown on my 6-month-old 5th generation iPod Touch (running iOS 8.1) for several months now, and I can't make it through a single mission without it crashing. Sometimes it even crashes while I'm in the HQ screens. So I emailed 2K Games in the naïve hope that they would actually be able to help. The following is presented for your amusement.
August 22: I send 2K my initial email, describing all the things I've tried to do to make the game run. Within 5 minutes, which is to their credit, I get a response recommending I try a number of things… all of which I had just described trying. I respond to that effect and include the crash logs from the game.
August 24: 2K emails me that the request has been elevated to the proper department.
September 19: No word from 2K, so I ask them if there has been any progress.

December 1: 2K finally responds! Yay! But they only ask if I'm still having the problem. I respond with, yes, I am still having the problem and the game is virtually unplayable.
December 2: I get the following response from 2K:
Hello Javelin98,It looks like this device is not compatible with our game. It is designed for iPhone's and iPads The way we designed the game is to run as smoothly as possible on the supported devices hardware, such as processors , graphics etc. We apologize for the inconvenience
I have attached a link showing the app description and what iOS devices re compatible with the game. If you would like a refund you will need to contact Apple Support and get to the iTunes Store Department.

What? Are you eff'ing kidding me? The game's iTunes page states:
Compatibility: Requires iOS 7.0 or later. Compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. This app is optimized for iPhone 5.
I said as much to 2K, although much more diplomatically. While I wait for them to respond, I guess I'll be asking Apple for a refund.
*sigh*
Thanks for letting me vent,
