We saw "$113.90 per week" through Hertz and went, "Oh! cool! That's a really low rate." But Hertz's added on "Taxes and Fees" ended up being $54.73 USD: not the "$39.28" shown in Expedia's reservation confirmation email. Okay! That brought the "final" price up to $201.17 USD, not "$185.72" as shown in Expedia's reservation confirmation email. That was a little higher than renting elsewhere, the last two times we've done this trip, but still reasonable. THEN, Hertz tacked on an additional $94.50 USD for a second driver!!?? WTH??? Final cost, $295.67 USD, nearly double what we have rented cars for in the past with other car rental companies. And we had no time to look elsewhere for a reasonable price and were stuck with Hertz the gougers, the fleecers. Caveat Emptor! …

You may want to go back to Expedia and have them intervene as they have at least one type of price guarantee.

Next, is to contact Hertz corporate and politely ask them to look into this. I've found that the people in the office are much more knowledgeable than those at the counter.

I don't remember the exact details, but 3 years ago we booked a car through Expedia with Budget. We too ran into charges "not covered" through an Expedia reservation. INCLUDING a 2nd Driver charge. We were able to avoid this charge by signing a "promise" that only I would drive……

I work for a car rental company in Britain.

My advice would be to book direct on the rental company's website. We have loads of trouble with these third party bookings because they don't tell people the full costs…….

Reminds me of another Abbott & Costello bit about Hertz U-Drive,or something like that.
