So I've restarted to play this game, the problem was back when it was new I had played rome total war to death and was so tired of the whole game type I never gave it a shot. I was quite hard in my cretiqe of it.
How ever back again and playing for for real for the first time in some 8 years.
The game is really good, the grapics have held up great, sure you don't get arrows stuck to soldiers like in rome 2. But the model and model texture is damn good still. And so is the nature and world.
One cool thing this game has no other toal war has is the upgrade system. take the humble spear levey, when you start the game is 1080 they have only some leather scraps on them, but when you upgrade the unit and it gets mail and then helmets ect. This way even the first type of unit you get can be quite usefull well into the mid game.
I've now played 160 turns I'm close to 1360 I think, and my armored billmen and foot knights have taken over. My mailed fudal knights are all but gone and I only use english knights now, except for one fudal knight that got 3 gold chevorns.
Guns have started to show up, still just as artillery no handgunners of yet. Even tho I play as England I go for the old medieval style full of mounted knights.
I'm at war with HRE, France, Denmark, Scotland and Milan.
Milan just shows up with a small army every few years throw them self at one of my walls and get murder.
Denmark has been Dominating HRE. France is stuck with 3-4 towns and no castles. (which means they only have milita units. Scotland is out of the Isles and have taken up sanctuary in Norway and Sweden.
HRE is down to a few towns, between me, Denmark and Milan it's not much left of this 1000 year empire.
